What's New

Witch Fingers

These WITCH FINGERS are really easy to make and they definitely don't need to be perfect; the imperfections make them extra CREEPY .  A great bake to make with kids because of this.  You can use store bought Sugar Cookie dough and tint it with green food coloring or follow my Sugar Cookie Recipe .  A dough without rising agent is best to keep the definition in the knuckles and prevent the cookies from puffing up in the oven.  Once you have prepared your dough, roll out to about 1/4" thickness and cut into finger sized rectangles.  Then shape using your hands.  Make it pointy at the top of the finger and a little fatter where you want your knuckle. Using the tip of a spoon or small spatula, make three indents for the knuckles.  Some sliced almonds added before baking and a touch of seedless mixed berry jam after the cookies have cooled complete the SPOOKY snacks.  HAPPY HAUNTING! 🦇

Halloween Treats

As a mom, I am constantly getting requests to bring treats to school.  I like to volunteer and get creative.  For my preschooler I made some fun cupcakes.  You can use any cake mix or recipe for the cupcakes but I will share my frosting recipe and details about how I created the decorations.

Shortening based frosting:
1lb Powdered Sugar
1C Vegetable Shortening
3 Egg Whites
1 tsp Pure Vanilla Extract
4Tbs Unsalted Butter

Combine all ingredients and beat on high in a stand mixer for about 5 minutes until fluffy.

To achieve the swirl color in the frosting paint lines straight up the sides inside a pastry bag fitted with a large decorating tip.  Carefully fill the bag with frosting.  pipe some out on wax paper to test/get colors flowing before piping onto cupcakes.

For the "Boo" decoration I colored royal icing and piped onto parchment paper and left over night to harden.  You can get really creative here and the great thing is the decoration last for a very long time if stored in a sealed container.  I actually made these while working on a separate project where I had left over icing.  Its great for making eyes as well.
